   * Writers Unlimited Meetings are held every 2nd and 4th Mondays, from 6:30-9:00 PM.
        
Location: Calaveras County Arts Council Gallery and Office    
        
22 N. Main St. in San Andreas, CA. next to the Historic Courthouse and County Museum.

        Protocol: Writers duplicate 9-10 copies of their work, 10 pages fiction or nonfiction, 3 poems max (10 pages),  and read it aloud or another member reads it aloud, with feedback from writers on effectiveness of plot, character, pacing, point of view, conflict, general mechanics and sentence structure,  diction, etc. commenting on strengths of the work and on needed revision.  

The Volume 6 Publication Release Party will be August 14, 2010, at the Leger Hotel in lovely Mokelumne Hill in Calaveras County. 11 AM to 6 PM.  Writers published in Manzanita will be reading their selections from the new book, and the public will be reading  at open mic. You are invited to come join us for a free day-long celebration, reading, and book-signing party!  If you are one of the writers in the publication, email mrosemanza@jps.net to sign up for a time slot. Bring books to sell at the writers table. Writers keep all profits from book sales at the table. Writers pick up their complimentary 2 copies of Manzanitaa and can buy additional copies for 1/2 off only at this event. The public can purchase copies at the event at 10.00 each, saving 5.00 on the purchase price.

11:15-12:15  Writers read from the new book
12:15-1:15 Lunch with the writers - No-host lunch by reservation and prepaid. Box lunches available as well: stroll the garden in back and meet the artists and photographers and see art and photography displays of work from the book and more. Buffet Lunch is 15.00. Reservations: Linda Field 
1:15-3:00  Writers read from the publication
3:00-3:15 Break for music and tasting
3:15-5:00 Writers read from Manzanita
5-6  Open Mic in the lounge
6-8 Dinner with the writers: no-host dinner, reservations and prepayment required. Contact Linda Field, Events Coordinator, for your reservation. 24.50 for dinner.

In addition to the ongoing reading, Jim Lanier will be entertaining us with his acoustic guitar.  Vendors, such as Mokelumne Nut Company and a couple of wineries will provide samples for tasting. Artists and photographers will have artwork and photographs featured in the book on view. It's a great time to buy a signed print by these talented artists and photographers. Featured Cover photographers are Paul Neal and Ty Childress.

We will have an open mic time for people who sign up at the event. The event is free. Refreshments, too. There will be scheduled writers every hour. Come to the Leger Hotel and join in the public celebration and reading by authors featured in the new book, and get your book signed by your favorite writer, artist, or photographer. This perfect-bound, glossy color-covered book with 200-plus pages features over 100 authors and poets, as well as 30 photographers and artists, will be an aesthetic addition to your coffee table. We will be featuring many Calaveras County artists in full color in this edition, still keeping the price down to 15.00, thanks to a grant from the Calaveras County Arts Council who has supported this literary publication since 1984!  Kudos to CCAC for supporting our arts!

  • March: layout for Manzanita - deadline for advertisers and sponsors to sign on to volume 6: June 30.
  • April 30-May 2: Goldrush Writers Conference features Writers from Manzanita Writers Press and Writers Unlimited
        
  • August 14, 2010, 11AM to 6 PM: Manzanita publication book release party - Opening Celebration - Manzanita volume 6 book release at Historic Hotel Leger in Mokelumne Hill, Calaveras County. Refreshments, book signings, reading by authors, music, and literary networking. Open mic for the public to share their writing. Over 100 writers and artists/photographers featured in the publication. Meet many of them at the event. Writers pick up their payment copies and sign books for the public.

Reserve no-host lunch and dinner for the writers party!  Join the public and friends and families of the writers, artists, and photographers in celebrating the book opening.  Email for more information: 12.00 Chicken Caesar Salad, fruit, beverage, etc. lunch - for 19.00 dinner, specialty by the chef.   • August TBA: Getty Ambau's Desta, a sweeping novel set in Ethiopia during the 1950s
  • August 28: 1-4 pm: Manzanita reading at Calaveras County Public Library, main branch, in San Andreas. 1-4. Open mic time for the public.
  • September: Release of Monika Rose's collection of poetry, River by the Glass
  • November 13, a Saturday, from noon to five, in the Heritage Room at Ironstone Winery in Murphys. A virtual Literary Fest. Luncheon with 10 authors and a nonfiction panel with Lodestar writers. Ironstone Winery in Murphys - Literary Festival with 10 regional authors sharing publishing information, craft talks and panels, and excerpts from their new books. F. Ted Laskin, Antoinette May, Getty Ambau, Monika Rose, Glenn Wasson, Stephen Holmes,  Janet Langton, Kathie Boyd Fellure, and Jim Lanier.
  • More readings TBA throughout Amador, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Tuolumne, Mariposa, El Dorado, Placer counties.
  • October: First book project for the new press: F Ted Laskin collection of short fiction, a literary publication
